First
Sighting of Planet Outside Solar System This Hubble image of a newborn binary stars reveals a long, thin nebula pointing toward a faint companion object, which could be the first extrasolar planet to be imaged directly. |
Intro by Laura Lee
Hubble Space Telescope photographs of
an actual planet revolving around a distant star! Not
just the inference of a planet, an actual planet, this
one, three times the size of Jupiter. Early report is
that this may be a wandering planet, ejected from the
binary star system nearby. Mark Hammergren is a Graduate
Student at the University of Washington.
