When I feel cast adrift in the sea of
modern angst and confusion, my lifeline is the perennial wisdom of the
collective human experiment. These wisdom traditions offer comfort and insight
and a means to restore one’s balance and connection.
And what a rich tapestry we have in all the world’s cultures. What does the
wisdom say, about living, loving, and dying, and about our place in the
universe? About our relationship with our own soul, our community, our
Creator? About how we can live our best life? How much do they all have in
common? What are their various roots? How far back do they go? How have they
changed through time? How far forward, and how well, have they survived into
modern times?
I think of it all as a handbook for being human.
