Petroglyphs
These petroglyphs look just like
those we saw in the Southwest.
Yet they are located in Eastern
Washington, with a similar
terrain of red rock canyons and
sagebrush. A recent trip took us
through Vantage, Washington,
their current location, where we
stopped at the Petrified Ginkgo
Forest Museum. The original site,
on basaltic columns from ancient
lava flows along the Columbia
River, featured over 300 separate
figures. These are considered to
be the best examples of
petroglyphic art in the Pacific
