About
the author
Alvin Schwartz wrote both the Superman and Batman newspaper
strips and many other comic book titles during the Golden Age of
comics in the 40's. While getting inside the "skin" of
these characters to write their stories, he began to research
stories of real-life people with extraordinary powers and
abilities, and of stories in wisdom traditions the world over
for the ineffable nature of spirit.
Mr. Schwartz is also the author of two philosophical novels, The
Blowtop, once described by the New York Times as
perhaps the first conscious existentialist novel in America, and
No Such Mirrors. Recipient of a prestigious Canada
Council Horizons grant given for work extending the perspectives
of the social sciences, he also authored three pseudonymous
novels for Arco Press, scripted feature films and wrote and
researched numerous docu-dramas for the National Film Board of
Canada. He lives in Ontario.
